The Julbock (pronounced roughly"yool-bock") is the traditional Swedish Yule Goat, one of the oldest Christmas symbols in Scandinavia. Long before Santa Claus became popular, the Julbock played a central role in Swedish Christmas celebrations.
The Julbock's roots go back to pre-Christian Nordic traditions. The goat is often linked to the Norse god Thor, whose chariot was said to be pulled by two goats. Over time, the goat became associated with the midwinter Yule festivities that later merged with Christmas celebrations.
