Four Ornament Traditions
This collection spans four distinct ornament categories:
Classic Scandinavian folk — Dala horses, Tomte figures, Scandi wooden birds, national-costume Swedish boys and girls. Year-round heritage pieces that work on a tree or off.
Heritage flag garlands — Swedish and Norwegian flag strings (approximately 6 feet, two per pack). Hang on a tree, mantel, banister, or window.
Local Minnesota & Lindström — laser-engraved wood ornaments for the Lindstrom Water Tower, "Lindstrom Est 1894," "Välkommen to Lindstrom," and Round Etched Lake ornaments (Chisago Lake, Green Lake, South Center Lake).
Collector & annual — the Pewter Tree "Tinn Per" annual ornament (each year's release is dated), SISU in Finnish Flag Colors wood slice, Wish Book character ornaments (Birki the Husky).
Heritage Context for the Folk Ornaments
Dala horse ornaments reproduce the iconic Nusnäs-style Dala horse at tree-ornament scale. Available in red, blue, black, and white, often with kurbits floral accents — see our Dala Horses collection for full-size carved horses.
Tomte ornaments represent the Scandinavian household folklore figure — a small, bearded guardian spirit who watches over farms and homes. See our Gnomes & Tomtes collection for the figurine catalog.
Scandi wooden birds — minimalist wooden bird silhouettes in bright colors, made in Sweden, a contemporary take on Nordic folk motifs.
National costume Swedish boy and girl — figures in traditional Swedish folk dress, usually with flag. Tree pieces and standalone decor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the ornaments made in Sweden or the U.S.?
A mix. Scandi birds and wooden folk pieces are made in Sweden and marked as such on product pages. Lindström and Minnesota lake ornaments are U.S.-made by local artisans. Flag garlands are imported.
What is the "Tinn Per" Pewter Tree ornament?
A dated annual pewter ornament. Each year has its own release; collectors often buy one per year. We stock the current year's piece and occasional past years.
Are the Lindström ornaments year-round decor?
Yes. The "Välkommen to Lindstrom" and Water Tower ornaments work as laser-engraved wall decor year-round, not only at Christmas.
What is SISU?
SISU is a Finnish word for stubborn persistence, grit, and inner strength — a core cultural concept in Finland. The SISU ornament is a heritage piece for Finnish-Americans.
