Stainless Steel Cheese Slicer with a laser cut out of the Swedish Dala Horse
The cheese slicer was invented in Norway, and quite definitively so. The device we recognize today (ostehøvel) was created and patented in 1925 by Thor Bjørklund, a cabinetmaker from Lillehammer.
Bjørklund wanted:
- Straighter, neater slices than a knife could provide.
- Thinner slices to help families stretch cheese during lean economic times.
- A tool that was simple, durable, and efficient, much like the woodworking tools he used daily.
