We live in America and choose a different country of their heritage to highlight each Christmas. 2025 will be Sweden. I’m half Swedish from both sides of my family but not many traditions were passed down. The house will be decorated with lit stars, red candle holders, Tomtas, Julboks and more. The tree will have straw designs, Swedish flags and woven hearts, the table will be set with a vintage table square, a smorgasbord of food and each young grandson will have a 2” Red Dala horse at their place setting. They have special treasure boxes to hold important trinkets and I’m sure they will keep their Dala Horses in there to rediscover and remember the new additions to their heritage traditions.
The Dala horse represents Sweden and brings back happy memories.
I purchased the Dahlia horse in remembrance of my dad’s grandpa who came from Stockholm. He was a very tall man and I guess that is where we get our height. I love to know more about Sweden!
