Discover the World’s Largest Swedish Coffee Pot in Lindström!

Welcome to Lindström, Minnesota—"America’s Little Sweden," where Scandinavian heritage and small-town charm brew together! Among the many gems in this delightful town, one stands tall and proud: the Swedish Coffee Pot Water Tower, an iconic landmark that embodies Lindström’s rich cultural history.

A Vision Turned Reality

Lindstrom’s history with water towers dates back to 1908 when they built a wood water tower on steel legs. In 1940s the wood tank was removed and a traditional steel water tank was erected to serve the growing community.

By 1992, the city planned to replace the aging structure with a modern tower, but local business owner Marlene Smith saw an opportunity to create something extraordinary. As the owner of Plastic Products Company, she envisioned transforming the old tower into a massive Swedish coffee pot—a tribute to the town's heritage. The city embraced her idea, and thanks to her generous funding, the world’s largest Swedish Coffee Pot was born.

The tower was given a spout, handle, and a bright blue trim in 1993. To symbolize the hospitality of the community it was painted with beautiful flowers, or Kurbits, and the cheerful Swedish greeting, “Välkommen till Lindström” which translates to "Welcome to Lindstrom."

In 1996, when the King and Queen of Sweden visited the town, the coffee pot even released steam in their honor! To commemorate the royal visit, Plastic Products Company crafted 5,000 miniature model kits of the tower, bringing its magic into homes far and wide.

Bringing the Steam Back to Lindström

Fast forward to 2023, when the Chisago Lakes Ambassadors took on a mission to restore the steaming feature to the coffee pot. Inspired by its history, they partnered with local businesses, nonprofits, and community members to raise funds. Plastic Products Company was kind enough to produce and donate 5,000 model kits, which are being sold to support the restoration project.

Thanks to their efforts, on June 21, 2025, during Lindström’s joyous Midsommar Celebration, the Swedish Coffee Pot Water Tower will begin steaming again—this time daily during "FIKA" hours, 10 am and 3 pm. FIKA, the Swedish tradition of enjoying coffee and sweet treats with friends, will now have an extra touch of magic in Lindström!

A Community Effort

Maintaining this whimsical masterpiece requires ongoing community support. You can be a part of this living tradition by purchasing your very own water tower model—available as a DIY kit or fully assembled—at the Swedish Gift Store. Proceeds help ensure the coffee pot continues steaming for years to come. A limited edition collectible, only 5,000 models were made and have nearly all been sold. Get yours while you still can!

High Quality Water

The City of Lindström has spectacular water quality!  There was even an orange juice bottling plant that located here just because of the water quality; the water didn’t need any treatment before being mixed with the orange juice concentrate that was trucked in from Florida.

Lindström’s water system relies on two wells, both of which are about 700 feet deep and draw water from the Mt. Simon aquifer.
